This project was created as a project for the Principles of Engineering class at Olin College of Engineering. When coming up with project ideas, we were inspired by the difficult for college students to keep plants alive. Studies have shown that having plants can boost one's happiness and the oxygen that they produce makes them good for the environment. Thus, the idea to build a system that would water plants automatically when needed was born. After working on the project for 9 weeks we were able to develop a working prototype with the following features:
- Ability to detect soil moisture
- User changeable settings for how much water is released
- Notifications to one via phone push notifications, email, or tweets
- Indication of when the water tank is empty
- Easily refillable tank that holds water for 12+waters
Below is a list of the materials that were used in our final prototype
